This is a video presentation of VrHeatTreat software in action; Optimize Time Step Sizes to Optimize the Balance Between the Accuracy of the Computed Results and the Computing Time. In particular, this video shows that the designer should try to choose time steps small enough that the maximum temperature increment in all time steps does not exceed say 50 degrees K or C. Also that the maximum change in the fraction of austenite or gamma phase in a time step should not exceed say 20%. Simply mouse over video to access player controls.
